The IT business is in constant evolution and CIOs must follow to stay in the race! The CIOs have the power to decide how to give their company the options for accomplishing main goals. However, it is not an easy path to go through, to succeed in the realization of such mission they have to know every part of their business and know how things are done. It is the only way they can add value and create options in designing the best solutions to optimize a company's processes, production and efficiency. Knowing every part of a business takes time. It is a long uphill process, not only for CIOs but also for the whole management team but in the end it pays off for everyone.

How do you know you are paying too much for your home phone?

I recently read an interesting humour statement that asked: "How do you know you are paying too much for your home phone?" Answer: “You have a home phone”. Do you know how much are you paying for your mobile phone, office phone, service on your tablet, PC, internet, and the staggering list of employee dependant devices used on a day to day basis? Let’s now raise the ceiling a little and look at this from an organization’s view point... Recent statistics show that the average number of devices carried by mobile workers is around 3.5 devices and is expected to grow even higher moving into 2013 and beyond. It should also be noted that this statistic is a mobile device tally and does not take into consideration the fixed work assets that these employees may have such as PCs, printers, faxes, etc. How much is it costing you on a global scale and how do you (if you do) keep track?  Are you fully aware of what you own, who has it, how much it costs, and equally important, do you really need these services?

The BYOD Debate – The Employee VS. The IT Department

on October 24, 2012 10:24 AM By | Caroline Le Brun | 0 Comments | BYOD IT cost management
Employee's are Driving BYOD Employees aren’t patient enough to wait around for the company to form committees to decide what technology to invest in while all of their competitors are walking around with the latest tablets, pdas, and mac book airs. They are not interested in attending training sessions to learn complicated technologies that don’t sync up to their contact lists, and itunes accounts. They want the simplest, easiest, and fastest technology and they need it now. They don’t care to wait around for Blackberry hand-me-downs. They want to be able to own their own devices and choose their own custom colored carrying case. They want to blur the lines between work and play, by filling up the conversation pauses of conference calls with text messages to their significant others while simultaneous trying to keep up with their social media followers.

Managing IT Costs in a BYOD Environment

on April 11, 2012 2:21 PM By | Caroline Le Brun | 0 Comments | Telecom Expense Management BYOD IT cost management tem
Recent trends in IT management call for a radically different approach to dealing with how companies deploy, maintain, and scale technology investments. A philosophical shift is taking place in the way organizations and individuals think about technology. The fixed technology infrastructure, limited compatibilities, ongoing system maintenance, thick user manuals, and strict usage policies are losing grip as technology is becoming more accessible and affordable than ever before. The consumerization of IT presents a major challenge to organizations as individuals are bringing their own iPads, iPhones, and Android devices into the workplace (The BYOD phenomenon). In addition, SaaS and cloud-service providers are making the provisioning of IT services so easy and accessible that the users often bypass IT to gain access to the productivity tools they need (or at least, think they need).

TEM Breeds Innovation (Part 1 of 2)

In Matt Ridley’s book “A Rational Optimist” he describes how the economy and subsequently the earth have become a better place when compared to the past (I recognize in lieu of the recent economic trends this part may require some folks to be super-rational-optimists). A recent article on caught the interest of many on the web. A medium-sized company was able to cut their IT Budget by 70 percent in one year. Essentially they tasked themselves with reevaluating all of their IT expenses. They had high monthly capital expenses incurred by trying to pay off fixed on-site infrastructure and monthly licensing fees. In addition, they were finding it costly to support and was not agile enough to keep up with their business needs. Their solution was to narrow down a menu of services based on their business requirements that were easy to support, cost less, and offered greater flexibility.
