The Business

With nearly two centuries worth of business experience and America-wide resources in metal manufacturing, this organization provides outstanding services and expertise on a global scale. Although their main focus is large-scale metalwork, this company also offers an impressive array of analogous services, ranging from engineering to storage, packaging, transport and fabrication of specialty parts. They collaborate with the private and public sectors alike, both locally and internationally. The industries they serve include aerospace, automotive, construction, energy, food, and medical, among several others.

The Challenge

The communication technology boom of the recent years enabled this company, as it did for so many, to markedly improve its ability to disseminate information internally and externally. New technologies and opportunities, however, are never without challenges: the sheer size and variety of services offered by the company meant equipping a large number of employees across 100 facilities with devices to respond to varied needs. Each individual device comes with its own unique set of contract terms – duration, fees, conditions, features, and so on – which must be carefully looked after by managers so as to avoid late fees, legal issues, and other problems. The Solution

Cimpl developed a unified, secure, and scalable technology expense management platform that was a natural fit for this metal manufacturing company. Visibility on costs was significantly improved. Important amounts that were being wasted on zero-usage devices were identified. These devices were either reattributed or had their contracts cancelled so as to avoid unnecessary fees. By comparing contracts to individual employee usage, it was also found that services could be optimized; certain features were being paid for individually when they could have been included in convenient bundles for less. A validity analysis of invoices revealed several discrepancies and irregularities between the amounts that were asked for and the actual amounts that were supposed to be paid. These were quickly reconciled.

The adoption of a solution allowed the company to make savings of $80,000 over 3 months. Late payment fees have been eliminated for good. Incremental savings are realized due to the increased self-accountability that is promoted by the reception of monthly statements and through the control mechanisms for zero-usage devices. The wireless inventory accuracy of 90% allows managers to know who owns what, whether it is still being used, and just how much it costs.
