When you have some essential knowledge about something that affects a lot of people, it’s important to share it. It’s in this spirit that Etelesolv (now Cimpl) will be presenting in San Diego at IAITAM Spring ACE 2015. Our talk is called “The Reward of Self-Service Audit” and will take place at 11:15am on April 28, 2015 at the Hilton San Diego Resort & Spa. This presentation will be given by our VP of Sales and Marketing.
If you’re an IT manager of any sort, you’ll want to hear what he has to say! And maybe you have a lot to share as well. The IAITAM Spring ACE conference (taking place from April 28-30) is an annual meeting of North American technology leaders – it’s the place to exchange and learn about important new ideas on IT. There's some deep insights that will impact your work. For example…
Did you know that just 20% of your IT spend is visible in your budget?
We didn’t make that up. The fact of the matter is, there’s been a spectacular rise in shadow IT, meaning that non-IT departments and personnel have been taking purchases of IT assets and services into their own hands.
It’s what we call decentralization, and it’s getting pretty widespread. For example, Symantec recently discovered that the employees of 3 out of 4 organizations put sensitive company data on personal Dropboxes – without the IT department knowing. The big challenge for the IT department is that, in spite of knowing nothing about this shadow IT being brought into the company, it still has to somehow manage it.
It’s a pretty clear case of losing control over IT spend, and, by extension, the IT budget. Luckily, there’s a very good way to take back control of runaway IT budgets. As Nitin will explain in his talk, you get back control by adopting the Enterprise Digital Footprint (EDF) as a framework. As we’ve mentioned before, in the EDF framework, all IT devices, services, and costs are categorized and managed using a single classification system.
Our VP said “One of the biggest challenges in business lies in identifying all of the IT that’s become hidden to managers due to shadow IT and decentralization. By embracing the Enterprise Digital Footprint as a framework, companies can empower employees with the ability to do self-service IT. This gives all employees the power to effortlessly provide IT departments with much-needed boosts in validating and managing IT costs. The heightened asset transparency then becomes an opportunity to understand one’s true ROI, leading to improved strategic planning.”
The reward of self-serve IT
By linking all data together in one place, there’s neither gap nor overlap in inventory information. That’s why it’s possible (and easy) to give all employees the software and process tools to do self-service IT. This makes life so much easier for CIOs and IT managers. It’s good for the rest of the company as well.
You see, as employees use a single system to do this self-service IT, information on asset usage/availability becomes logged and open to analysis. All of which leads to greater accuracy and expense management, lower total costs, and greater in-company business intelligence. And that’s just for a start!
Every year, literally trillions of dollars are spent on IT. The problem is, because so much goes unchecked or unnoticed, the ROI on this technology is unknown. That’s really not good. Our company’s “The Reward of Self-Service Audit” is going to be a great roadmap for solving this problem. Don’t miss it! Register now for the IAITAM Spring ACE 2015 conference. Come see our talk and walk away with a new vision for optimizing your IT resources for maximum business impact.
