*Please note that Etelesolv changed its company name to Cimpl in 2016.
Once again, Etelesolv takes part in Movember, the most distinguished November event. We even kicked off the occasion in the workplace with a moustached Darth Vader in the dining room (Seriously)!
With great moustaches come great awareness
If you are interested in learning about Movember, the movement’s website is a great place to get yourself up to date and to start participating in a worthy cause. And why wouldn’t you? Who would not want to be called a “Mo Bro” or a “Mo Sista”? The Movember site not only allows you to get involved, but also has content that will keep you entertained.
BUT here is the thing: Although Movember has become a global movement in the last few years, there are still those not in the know about the cause. We found this out firsthand when we discovered that our employees, who come from literally everywhere, were not unanimously aware the Movember movement and what it stands for. There is clearly still work to be done in terms of spreading awareness. And so, that’s why we’re talking about Movember today!
Apart from growing a moustache, how well do you know Movember? Here is how and why we encourage you to join the cause!
Quick Mo history
Movember was started in 2003 by Travis Garone and Luke Slaterry, two friends from Melbourne, Australia. Together, they decided to bring back the moustache as a fashion trend by linking it to fundraising for men’s health and prostate cancer. They were the first to design rules and guidelines for Movember (which are the ones that are still in place today) and to find others guys (and girls) willing to take up the challenge.
The movement has now grown from Australia to being a worldwide event. Between 2003 and last year, Movember has reached the following milestones:
- Movember has had more than 4 million participants (that’s a lot of Mo Bros and Mo Sistas!);
- The movement has raised CAD $ 574 million;
- There are currently 21 participating countries; and
- The total proceeds have funded 770 men’s health projects.
How can I Participate in the Movember Event?
If you would like to sign up there are a couple of easy steps to follow. First, sign up on the Movember site. Then, you have to grow a fine piece of moustachery throughout the 30 days of Movember (although you have to follow a few rules).
The ultimate goal of this month-long face-changing event is to raise funds for prostate cancer, testicular cancer and mental health. Get talking about freshly grown moustaches to raise awareness for men’s health!
This is great… but I am a woman.
It seems very unlikely that you can grow facial hair (although ...). BUT rest assured that women play a key role during Movember. LADIES: It’s now the moment to show your love for moustaches by encouraging distinguished men in your entourage, either with a smile or by making a donation to your favorite moustache owner!
At Etelesolv, we are proud to engage in our community
