Cimpl Rides Under The Sun for Big Bike 2017

Posted by Caroline C. Le Brun | June 20, 2017 5:30 PM

Every year, the Heart & Stroke Foundation holds their Big Bike event in La Belle Province. And since 2010, Cimpl has been taking part in honour of one of our colleagues who passed away due to a heart condition.  Our employees have been jumping on that big red bike with a goal of raising funds to support research for cardiovascular disease.

“Every year when we do this, it’s always been a memorable moment.” – Martin

Heart disease is the second leading cause of death in Canada, and 9 out of 10 Canadians over the age of 20 have at least 1 risk factor associated with heart disease. 4 out of 10 Canadians have three or more. With cardiovascular disease taking so many lives, sometimes due to preventable causes, the Big Bike event is hoping to promote healthier lifestyles with their epic bike ride. Some preventative measures include:

  • Avoid smoking
  • Exercise (Aim for 30 minutes of moderate activity per day)
  • Develop healthy eating habits
  • Achieve and maintain a healthy weight
  • Learn to cope with stress in healthy ways

“I like how we can have fun while helping others. It may seem meaningless to us, but it can shine on someone’s life!”  - Nick

On that note, Cimpl is currently taking part in a 30-day health challenge! Our employees are moderating their water intake, eating healthier, doing regular exercise, practicing mindfulness, and tracking their number of steps using the health app, 'Praktice Health'. And all in the name of fun! Prizes will be given to those who follow the healthiest lifestyles during the challenge.

This year marks Cimpl’s 8th participation in the Big Bike, as 29 of us pedaled our way through traffic, stopping cars and trucks alike with bells in hand and silly necklaces around our necks. As we rode through the streets (and even service roads!) of the Montreal Suburbs, we were honked and waved at by passersby. The sun was beaming down on us as we enjoyed one of this summer’ first beautiful days! NO RAIN THIS YEAR! Fabulous weather!

“I loved when cars and trucks honked to support us, and people in buildings or walking on the sidewalks cheered us on…that was super cool!”  - Louise

Taking part in the Big Bike closely aligns with Cimpl’s core values of Fun and FamilyAs one of Canada’s Best Small and Medium Employers, we are strong believers in work and life balance. By participating in fundraisers like Big Bike, we encourage having fun under the sun, and for a good cause at that.  This year, Cimpl is proud to announce that we raised $3,890 towards funding the Heart & Stroke foundation.

Anyone can lend a helping hand in funding research on heart disease & stroke!
