BigBike: Loving Big For A Sixth Year!

Posted by Henry Cheang | June 12, 2015 4:30 PM

*Please note that Etelesolv changed its company name to Cimpl in 2016.

Twenty-nine seats. One bike. Two kilometres. Fifteen minutes.

On June 2nd, Etelesolvers rode a Big Bike to support the Heart & Stroke Foundation. For their sixth consecutive year of fundraising, the participants were able to gather a record amount of $5,815, which made them a VIP team.

Support the Heart and Stroke Foundation!

Lots of fun, very few clouds!

It was in between two rainfalls that the 29 Etelesolv employees enthusiastically participated in the Big Bike, an event organized every year by the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Thanks to the employees and the support of their friends and families, Etelesolv was able to donate $5,815 for the foundation.

Among our 29 participants, Vincent Parisien and his wife, France Rousseau, stood out by single-handedly raising more than half of the total amount given by the Cimpl team. Vincent is our Vice-President of Technology, and he and his wife are very active in causes close to their hearts.

Pedaling to remember

The Heart and Stroke Big Bike has a special meaning for Etelesolv. In April 2010, former Etelesolv employee Ronald suddenly collapsed in the hallway of our old office. He was immediately brought to the Royal Victoria Hospital where he was diagnosed with a heart defect. That defect caused a complete aortic rupture. He passed away the same night from the complications resulting from the surgery meant to save his life. Ronald was only 54 years old.

The entire company mourned his death. Vincent the most, since he was the one who accompanied Ronald in the ambulance. He also supported Ronald's wife during that time of anguish.

Apply now and be part of the team!

A sixth consecutive year

Ever since this tragic event, Etelesolvers have been enthusiastically participating in the Big Bike every year. Despite the bad weather that befalls the team every year, the riders always pedal with zeal and energy over the two-kilometre-long ride, cheering and waving at drivers.

The Cimpl team is proud to have collected a record-breaking (for the company) amount this year, practically doubling its initial objective. Thanks to the huge generosity of Etelesolv employees and that of their social circles, Etelesolv was able to give almost $6,000 to the Heart & Stroke Foundation for them to finance the purchase of specialized equipment. A part of this amount will also be invested in heart disease research and on ways to prevent them.

A necessary fundraising

It goes without saying that this research is necessary. Every nine minutes, a Canadian suffers from a heart attack. Unlike the saying "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger", heart diseases do weaken you. Part of Etelesolv’s core values is “Fun and Family”, and for us, family extends to caring about the community at large.

We encourage you to help prevent tragedies by getting involved yourself, or by giving donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation. As for us, we will certainly ride the Big Bike again next year!
