*Please note that Etelesolv changed its company name to Cimpl in 2016.

What do you know about Vanier College?

Vanier College is a public college located in Montreal. The school was established and started in 1970, but before it became a college it was a church. Many people know about this college but not familiar with all the amazing programs thought by its experienced teachers. Vanier College is a multicultural environment where everyone is approachable and open-minded.Vanier College

Vanier College is a great school and it offers a wide variety of programs. One of those programs is Office System Technology Micropublishing and Hypermedia; this program involves a variety of learning opportunities in a range of disciplines such as; translation, design, web, advertisement, marketing, communication and many more. All wrapped up in one single program! Sadly even many of the Vanier College’s students don’t know about this program unless they have friends attending it.

Hi, my name is Swintan Bernard M; I’m currently at my final year enrolled at Vanier College as a scholar in multimedia. I’ve chosen the Office System Technology Micropublishing and Hypermedia program offered at Vanier because it was recommended to me through my brother, but I personally had no interest in that course. Within the first year, I learned all the basics of Dreamweaver, InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and many more but to be honest the basics wasn’t interesting. As a result, it didn’t really capture my intention of wanting to stay in the program.

During my second year, it started to get more intense in the course and as I worked on superior projects, and the teachers would get us actual clients for whom to do websites, posters, business cards, logos, and so much more, similar to the work of a junior designer does. In addition, we began to acquire skills in marketing materials, translation, communications and everything related to the business field. This was a great year for me to determine what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. As a result, I was able to conclude on continuing in this program and achieving my College degree in Office system technology: micropublishing and hypermedia.

During my last semester, students were assigned to find a place to do their internship. After many searches I’ve got an opportunity at Etelesolv (now Cimpl). This was an amazing company, known as Canada #1 in Telecom and IT Management. This was a great opportunity for me as a student to learn and understand how a company works. During my first day of stage I was overwhelmed by the employees, everyone was very polite and welcoming. After watching so many movies in my childhood, I always imagined working at a company would be horrible since the boss would never appreciate the hard work and would always be mean towards his employee. But after working at Etelesolv, it was totally different because people appreciated me for my work, listened while I spoke, and most importantly made me feel like being part of a family. Through this great experience I was able to gain skills and working experience. I was part of a great marketing team, who helped me learn and understand the techniques and strategies to develop  stunning creatives. The team was of great support to me, without their help, these 4 weeks would have not been the same. Unfortunately my internship is only for one month, it is sad to know that I will be leaving such great working environment and the amazing people I’ve met at Etelesolv. I am very pleased that I had the opportunity to do my internship at Etelesolv, because it was a great learning experience for me.

Finally, as a graphic design student from Vanier College, I strongly recommend this program for those who are artistic, talented and have a passion for art. You can’t ever be unemployed; because all companies in this world need a graphic designer!
