The 10 best Iphone Apps that will make your day!

Posted by Caroline Le Brun | March 7, 2013 8:27 AM

Spring cleaning is coming, let's keep the hot apps!

Apps available on Iphone or Ipad are so numerous that you may need some help to check on what is worth keeping, adding or even deleting.

We all have been through social media or travelling apps, we know them, we surely use them like Google Maps almost everyday. When it comes to this little something that makes a difference, some apps are not only handy, they can become life savior, and the best part is that they are free! I realized that last week on a day like today:

  • RunKeeper:

When you go out running it follows you with the GPS wherever you go. You can set fitness goals and get free coaching. It measures your improvements. It very like the Nike app but it is free!

Bonus: It keeps you connected with your mates and gives statistics to encourage efforts.

  • Biximo:

This application shows following bike-sharing programs: BIXIâ„¢, BikeShareâ„¢, Cycle Hireâ„¢, NiceRideâ„¢ or Hubwayâ„¢ stations with bikes and docks availability info. You can check bikes and docks availability at a glance with pie-chart like pins and get or leave your bike at the closest available dock without wasting time.

Bonus: You can have it now in French!

Biximo operates in Montreal, Toronto, Ottawa, Gatineau, Washington, Boston, Minneapolis, London (UK) and Melbourne (Australia).

  • Kobo:

This app allows you to read millions of free books, magazines and affordable eBooks from the palm of your hand. Bus, metro, waiting rooms are no longer boring! A good alternative to the press when you are not in the mood for world news.

Bonus: You can share passages, notes and awards you got on the app with friends on social media. You can add books to your library from e-mail, the web or your Dropbox account and even PDF.

  • iHandy Level Free:

You do not always carry your tool box with you, like at work or at a friend's place, well right! Now you can easily use your phone as a level and get it right anywhere anytime you need and very quickly!

Bonus: The tool box offers other apps very handy too should you be hooked to these little tools!

  • ShopWise:

At lunch, when you want to go out for shopping to catch up on missing items at home, you never remember where you saw this or that on special, well not anymore! Shopwise saves you time and money showing you the greatest deals around you relying on your shopping list requests.

Bonus: You can set you own alerts on your favorite products.

  • Flightboard:

After work you are going to pick up a friend at the airport, you turn on your phone on arrivals for any airport around the world and you will get all information real-time. You can schedule the time you leave the office easily save you time waiting and money on the parking bill.

Bonus: the vintage display is really cool.

  • Adobe Photoshop Express:

You take a picture but it is a bit dark, you can simply and quickly edit and share your photos with pro tools from your mobile device, and in this case, get a brighter picture in an instant click.

Bonus: It is a good way to start with Photoshop before going with the computer version, more complex. If you know it already, the apps will be very easy to use.

If you love photo apps you can check IColor Wand which received the Best App Award last year and also more apps on this video:

  • Open Table:

You realize you forgot to book a table for tonight! Not only can you have a snap shot of the best tables in town but you know real-time tables' availability. Then you can make your reservation on-line and that's it!

Bonus: You earn valuable Dining Rewards Points redeemable for Dining Cheques good at any Open Table restaurant. The app works in Canada and in the USA.

  • Parking:

You are late for your dinner reservation, or it is raining cats and dogs! You do not have to spend time looking for the parking meter anymore. Just enter your parking number in your mobile and pay from your account wherever you are, or in a warm seat on time inside.

Bonus: You get a reminder when your paid time is about to end. Of course you can add payment and time.

These apps exist in main cities like P$ Mobile Service for Montreal, PayByPhone in many North American cities including San Francisco, Miami, Ottawa, Whistler or Vancouver, Pango in New York.

  • Trip splitter:

In a few seconds you enter each participant and what they paid for. No more trouble on who paid what or who didn't drink wine etc. Each bill is registered and split respectively. The app also coordinates and links creditors with debtors according to the amounts which also eases the final payments.

Bonus: Should you do it after the trip, the app sends to each participant an email with the final breakdown. Everything is clear and everyone is happy!
