Fun Friday Post: A Different Smartwatch From an Actual Watchmaker!

Posted by Henry Cheang | September 19, 2014 7:00 AM
For those of you unfamiliar with the term, techopedia defines a smartwatch as “a wearable computing device marketed as more than a cell phone. With a glance, it gives atomic clock accuracy and allows you to read your text messages in a device that is always at hand (or, dare I say, on hand).” It is a watch after all!

According to NextMarket Insights, the smartwatch market is expected to reach shipments of around 15 million units in 2014 and surpass 373 million units by 2020. Basically, smartwatches are predicted to explode into the tech scene and become an essential gadget within the coming years. This means that there is a great opportunity for companies to profit off the industry’s growth in the immediate future. These numbers include both companion smartwatches (i.e., functions as a complimentary peripheral to another device) and standalone smartwatches (i.e., comes equipped with full communication and calling capabilities).

As you are likely to know, Apple just focused the world’s attention on smartwatches by unveiling the Apple watch. Enough has already been said about this device, so we’ll be drawing your focus to another worthy entry that you might have missed: The TIMEX IRONMAN ONE GPS+!

Timex Adds Their First Smartwatch to Their Product Line

PR Timex SmartwatchIn collaboration with Qualcomm Connected Experiences, Inc., AT&T and Synchronoss Technologies, Inc., Timex is the very first dedicated watchmaker to develop and deliver a new, innovative smartwatch. The collaboration between the 4 companies will allow the provision of a device that delivers greater value to customers. This is due to the IRONMAN ONE GPS+’s ability to connect users with others and enable mobility, all while using display technologies.

Price and Additional Information

Currently (at the date of writing this blog), you are unable to purchase the watch through the Timex website as it is only available in November.

Who is Timex’s Target Market for This Watch?

Due to rugged nature of the device and the features included, the main target market appears to be fitness enthusiasts who are interested in cardiovascular-related exercises. The core product still remains a watch but the augmented features enable customers to remain connected to their friends, family and social networks while on the go, without the need to be tethered to a mobile phone. Additionally, they can track their performance and connect with others through the feature that relays a user’s location. Others who may be interested in the watch are tech enthusiasts and of course those interested in the device for its design and fashionability.

How the Watch Works

The watch is run using a cloud-based software that is managed by Synchronoss This will enable users to have access to a powerful and easy to use system which can be used to monitor their athletic performance.

The Importance of Transparency

One major benefit of the TIMEX IRONMAN ONE GPS+ that you’re unlikely to notice is that it offers users transparency. Its ability to connect users and record vast amounts information regarding athletic performance is extremely valuable to fitness enthusiasts. By endowing these users with this new technological breakthrough, they are able to increase their physical performance by looking at their results and modifying their training regimen accordingly.

This notion that transparency increases performance applies to businesses as well, if not more so. Technology is improving at a breakneck pace, and its adoption by businesses worldwide are reaching ever-greater record highs. Managing these IT assets is a difficult task if you don’t use management solutions that emphasise and enable transparency!
